The song was written by Colbert & Joyce Croft. The Kingsmen
originally recorded back around 1975 or 1976 and it featured Eldridge
Fox and charted well for the Kingsmen.

Charles Johnson and the Revivers "revived" the song in the late 80s
and early 90s and it charted well for them as well.

So I wonder, if after all that charting, whether the songwrite(s) were able
to buy themselves a steak dinner with the royalty checks?

The Blind Boys from Alabama have a pretty good version of it out.
Our quartet sang it a couple of times. It is a great song.

Christian Country artist Ken Holloway recorded it too, in 1994.

Did anyone mention Mark Lowry (with Howard and Vestal) yet? It was on his
_But Seriously_ CD and has just be re-released on _The Best Of Mark Lowry,
Vol. 2_.
