Does anyone know if Sonya Isaacs is married? A friend of mine says she
is,but I say she isn't.I am really not sure though. It doesn't make any
difference either way, just curious. I love The Issacs. Just wish they
would come to my area. They have not been in my area in many years.I did
get to see them in 2003 at a Gaither concert about 100 miles away.
Thank you,
Michael

She was married to Tim Surrett, but they have divorced.

Clarence Grigsby, David Stuart and me have submitted applications for the
position, but so far she hasn't returned any of our phone calls.

Yes, and if the story is true among other issues that Sonya and Tim had was
her insisting on doing a Country-Western album that Tim was dead set
against.
She went ahead and he went away.

I've heard that, but never from a reliable source.

That's what's referred to as "common sense" in some circles.

Actually, I'm not interested. She does the emcee work for the group
and that's too close to being a woman preacher for my taste. :-)

And where in the Bible does it mention ordaining women as preachers?
Women can speak but should not preach.

I'm dating an exotic dancer.

Paul said that women were to keep silent in church. I wish that he'd
added about 80% of the men while he was on the subject. :-)

Okay, we're all being off topic here... but I just HAD to throw in my two
cents.

have any of you ever stopped to consider that the entire Bible is HEAVILY
male dominant, and that is the result of the fact that during the times
scripture was written, women were considered second rate citizens 'at
best'... so is it any wonder that women were ordered to remain silent.
Heaven forbid they upstage one of the superior "men" in the gathering.

Yeah.... Let's keep them barefoot and pregnant. God forbid they could
ever vote. We'll keep them in the nursery, let them rock the babies,
but for goodness sake, don't let them utter a word that might lead
someone to Jesus. Since they don't posess a p***s, they aren't
suitable to proclaim the word of God.

It's not that I'm not willing to fight, it's that:
a. I've learned not to cast pearls before swine (that sure sounds
insulting, and I don't mean it to be.) I just mean that I've lost interest
in fighting with people, because fighting with them never convinces them.
b. I'm trying not to go back to the days when I majored on minors and
was rough or abusive to good people. I'm a slow learner, but finally have
had a measure of humility forced upon me. You sometimes learn by hardship
when you fail to learn by other means.

I'd rather build up through instruction than bludgeon by instigation. I've
too often beat on people just so I could have that feeling of superiority
that "I'm right." Too many pyrrhic victories.

Paul, I may be wasting my time on this because I know we aren`t going
to agree-and I think you know that too, which is maybe why you ask me
specfically. So I really don`t know whether my pastor is ordained or
not, but she is a fine woman of God. I read that There are almost
4,000 licensed and ordained women in the Assemblies of God.

In 1984, the Southern Baptist Convention adopted a resolution saying
the Bible "excludes women from pastoral leadership." Like many things
adopted by this Convention, the resolution was almost meaningless. In
a September 1993 meeting of the SBC Executive Committee, a measure to
expel congregations for ordaining women was rejected unanimously. The
Fall 1997 edition of Folio, the newsletter of Baptist Women in
Ministry, reported that there are 1,225 ordained Southern Baptist
women. Roughly 200 of the ordained women serve as pastors and
associate pastors.

You can deceide whether these verses excludes women or not.

Num. 11:29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would
God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would
put his spirit upon them!

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I
perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

Gal. 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor
free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ
Jesus.

Romans 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to
speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.-(notce
the word ALL)

Acts 2:17 & 18 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,
I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and
your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those
days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Now you surely will have questions about this post, but if so ask
someone else-you might ask Pastor Dan, I think he is very
knowledgeable. I hope I`ve helped and I hope I haven`t just wasted my
time because I have the feeling this is leading to a topic I do not
intend to post on AMGS.

Paul, I may be wasting my time on this because I know we aren`t going

specfically. So I really don`t know whether my pastor is ordained or

Didn't really address the question to you. Just answered what my question
was to you.

Many times when the Bible says "ALL" as you point out it means men not women
and children. The Bible was written in a time that women were a little lower
than cattle and given the choice of which to save the husbands would many
times save the cattle and let the wife die - easier to replace in their
eyes.

Many women of the Old Testament had vital parts in the history of Judaism
and Christianity but I just don't see them going around preaching like, oh,
let's say Paul, Peter, Barnabas, etc.

They just were not called to do that type of thing.
I believe that there are many great women today - Annie Graham Lotz for
example who speak at inspirational rallies, dinners, etc. but she will tell
you herself that God did not call women to preach.

Anyway, you do your thing and I will do mine. I just will not violate what
the Bible says and "sit under the authority of a woman" in the pulpit.

Women can speak but should not preach.

Hey, it's still this way in Iraq and Iran, and look what a wonderful place
that is!!! Heaven on earth I'd say.

You're right, let's never give consideration to the fact that the Bible is
almost exclusively male dominant... but of course, that has "nothing" to do
with how society was at that time - rather a literal translation which
SURELY must be how God wants it!!!!

And as you said, if you "miss my sarcasm'..... lol

OK, I'm not gonna argue, but I do want to make a point. Nobody is even
attempting to answer Paul's question except for James Moore. Where in
the Bible does it mention ordaining women as preachers? Instead of
trying to prove Paul(both Slopak and the Apostle) wrong from
Scripture, I see some of you building a straw men of sarcasm. Women's
role in society is not the issue raised.

I'm a Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan. Let's say that I go to Coach
Gillispie and tell him that I want to play center for the Cats next
year and Billy says that chubby, short 38 year olds need not apply. I
don't meet his qualifications. Coach decides who does what on his team
and he says I can't play center. He didn't say that I can't be his
assistant coach, director of basketball operations or equipment
manager. He didn't say that I couldn't be President of the University
or athletic director(aka his bosses). For that matter, he didn't say
that I couldn't vote, leave the house or wear shoes. He didn't say
that that I was a second class citizen. I wrongfully might infer those
things, but all that he said is that I didn't meet his qualifications
to play center for his basketball team.

I think some of you are inferring that those of us who don't think
that the Bible teaches the ordination of women feel that women are to
be subservient. I can only speak for myself; I'm not going to make
snap judgements about anyone else based on one newsgroup post. No, I
would not be a member of a church with a female pastor. On the other
hand, I have worked with female co-workers and for female supervisors.
I have voted for female candiates at all levels of government. Several
of my best teachers and college professors have been female. Just
because someone isn't qualified to pastor or preach doesn't make them
subhuman. I'm not qualified to be ordained at this point in my life,
so I certainly wouldn't say that.

Please don't judge somebody as a caveman because of one of their
Bible doctrines. There are some people with my position who regard
women as personal property. I'm not one of them and I find that
attitude despicable. But I'm only responsible for and only speak for
myself. I also know many wonderful Christians who disagree with me,
but they are still my friends.

That's all I'm saying about the subject.

Great job, Grigsby. I agree 100%. It's a major leap to go from one point
that a person believes because the bible says so to a point where they want
women to be like property rather than equal human beings. I think this
biblical instruction was not a move to keep women down. If it was, the
demotion of women would be encouraged in other areas as well.

Instead, the bible instructs men to love their wives in the same manner that
Christ loved the church...being willing to die for them, in other words. If
a person dismisses the instruction that women shouldn't preach as a
reflection of society's standards in the first century, then it's mighty odd
that the bible instructed that women should be valued in so highly by their
husbands. Someone mentioned that women were more like possessions in those
days. The bible singled out wives to be loved based on the highest example
possible, though...so I think the bible was there to correct society's
prevailingly wrong tendencies.

Well...obviously, I don't think the bible was "there" in the first century.
It was assembled later. I should have said that I think one reason the
biblical books were written was to help correct what was wrong in that
time...not merely reflect the values of that time.

Oh well, there's an old saying, "if you have to explain the punch-line of a
joke" don't bother, it ain't funny anymore.

Aw, shucks. I'm not perfect, just brilliant.

You were talking to me, weren't you? If you think anyone else on here
is brilliant, it will hurt what few feelings that I have.

LOL!

Does anyone know if Sonya Isaacs is married?
She was married to Tim Surrett, but they have divorced.
Clarence Grigsby, David Stuart and me have submitted applications for the
position, but so far she hasn't returned any of our phone calls.
David Bruce Murray
This shows that Sonya is a woman of taste and discernment.:-)

If this is the same Inquirer that I'm thinking of, maybe Sonya just

Actually Clarence, I forgot to ask her that when I saw her three
months ago.:-)
As for David's question, I think that's just his overactive
imagination at work once again. :P
